Apx Beretta A1 - Go to the Wayback Machine and set the line for early 2017. Beretta recently lost the Army's Modular Pistol Systems competition. But the Italian gunsmith used the product of this process to introduce the first pistols that were shot on the commercial market.
The full-sized APX pistol does everything you want a 9mm striker-fired pistol to do, and it does it very well. Beretta has since expanded its APX line with a variety of sizes and features, including the APX A1 Carry pistol introduced last fall.

But the look of the APX Carry pistol makes it clear that something is going on in APX World. The design is markedly different. The slide indent serrations (not really serrations) in the line are gone, but the APX Carry has more traditional serrations. And Beretta personnel promise more changes to the APX platform as they go.

These changes became apparent when Beretta announced its new APX A1 size for release at the NRA. As you can see echoes of the original APX changes (Beretta now calls it APX A Zero). There is more than just beauty in the APX. A1. Beretta says the new gun is the result of five years of evolution and improvement.
Let's start with the exterior, like the APX A1 Carry, the new APX A1 Full Size eliminates the slide misalignment that some like and some don't. Instead, Beretta gave the slide a more aggressively wedged pattern. This is more in line with other competitors in the APX A1 class. Beretta says Aquatech's nitride coating is also more corrosion resistant.
But there's more to this new slide. First and foremost, the lens is ready. A serious new must-have weapon today. With a variety of mounting platforms available for pistol optics, Beretta now ships the APX A1 without a plate ... There is only a standard cover. They sell a variety of plates (about $50 each) for just about any RDO mount you can think of, including Trijicon, Leupold, Aimpoint and Burrus/Docter.
The APX A1 size slide also includes a tritium night sight on the front and a plain black rear sight. Another nice move: the sights are Beretta 92/94 compatible, so there's a world of aftermarket options if you want something different.

Beretta ships its full-size APX A1 with two 17-round magazines (unless you live in
State... poor you get 10 rounds). The APX A1 has also been given a redesigned beavertail that allows you to hold the gun a little higher.
Beretta has updated the frame on the APX A1. More and different textures have been added. Extend the markings up to the index points on the frame. The finger grooves where the original APX sports are missing.
The other big improvement that Beretta is showing is the APX A1 trigger. I'm not sure that level of hyperbole makes sense, but the APX A1's trigger is very good—just like the original.
Beretta Drops A New Apx Pistol (yaay)
The full-size APX A1 trigger has a pull weight of 6.5 pounds, but the pistol I tested averaged 5.8 pounds on my Lyman trigger gauge with a clean pull and short reset.
On the original APX, the blade trigger safety was rounded and slightly raised. when you feel depressed It will always be proud of the trigger shoe (see above), leaving a thin "ridge" on your index finger. Mostly it's not a big deal. But if you are in range and you can shoot a lot. He might lose your footing.
The APX A1 safety blade snaps in two and fully retracts when the trigger is depressed. Wash the shoes at the end. It feels flat when pulled, which is noticeably more comfortable.
Another Beretta improvement is an improved recoil spring. Beretta switched to a lightweight single spring that is easy to maintain.
Review: Beretta Apx Carry
This change does not seem to affect reliability at all. And they should make it a little easier for people with less hand strength. (Not that the original was hard to rack.) The APX A1 seriously sharpened all the rounds I fed it with loads ranging from 115 to 147 grains.
The barrel is exactly the same on both APXs, which means the Beretta threaded barrel will work just fine.
While pulling the Beretta's fire control is a little more involved than other modular pistols, it's not difficult. You will need to slide the pin out. Then you can change the grip frame if necessary.
Magazines will be the same for the original pistol as the APX A1, and Beretta says there will be.

Got the APX A1 in the Kydex holster I had for the original APX. It certainly didn't fit, but it worked. If you're upgrading from an APX to an APX A1, try the new pistol in your existing rig a. But I guess you will want to buy a case for the new model.
This is a gun that I just shoot really well. don't install a small back strap It fits very well in my hand and feels very natural.
At the APX A1 press conference, we had a competition between different types of media. I've never been a competitive shooter and usually don't do very well in these things. But somehow, I ended up in the top middle of the pack shooting the APX A1 with a Burrus Fast Fire red dot. Your mileage may vary. But I guess many people will get the same good results.
Beretta has done a great job of improving what is already a very capable 9mm pistol. They've obviously listened to their customers over the years and made a lot of changes. Both aesthetically and functionally, this makes the APX A1 truly competitive with other 9mm pistols on the market.
Beretta Apx A1 9mm Pistol
I was a big fan of the original APX, as I told a Beretta engineer at the launch event. The original seems to have been made by an Italian. I mean that's a compliment. But I'm not sure it did. However, the new design of the updated APX A1 will be more attractive to users than the original design. There is no nice polymer 9mm launcher, but for me APX A1 looks good.
This is the key point of improvement in APX A1. The frame has been improved with better textures. Deeper bottom and a revised tail. The new standard and aggressive slide serrations are easier to grip and less likely to slip. And changing the blade safety trigger is a definite plus.
The APX A1 can't be concealed any more than other 9mm-sized pistols, which means if you want to pack a full-sized gun, that's fine, depending on your gear and overalls.
I put several rounds in this gun with a variety of ammunition. I was also at the event other writers did the same. I have never met zero mean people and I have never seen people like them.

It has three straps back. and optically ready everything you need 92/94 compatible sights are also a good idea. One star for shipping the pistol without the plate.
Again I love I have (and own) the original APX. I have no problem with the slide indentation or the sight of the pistol. Not everyone has the same opinion. If you are in the latter group you will likely be very happy with the upgrade. And think back to what Beretta gave their flagship 9mm assault pistol, improving the APX A1's capabilities and putting all the other 9mm sizes to work.
