Dity Move Weight Tickets - When you make a DITY or Partial DITY move, you will need to weigh your household items to show the TMO how much you have moved.
You can measure your car, truck and/or trailer in the US on a variety of scales. to get these weight tickets. In my experience CAT standards are the easiest and most user friendly. There are thousands of them in the US. so it should be easy to find. If you want more options, Penske has created this impressive scale that includes verified public ratings.

At the end of your trip you should have a weight ticket for each vehicle without a car/trailer and another weight ticket with a fully loaded vehicle. At the TMO at your point of entry, the weightless ticket will be deducted from the total weight ticket and the weight of your household items will be calculated. Branches other than the Air Force may have restrictions on how many tickets you need and when you can submit them, so check with your travel office.
Weight Tickets And Weight Stations
There are two different ways to get your weight tickets. Another way is to weigh your car(s) empty before loading, then when it's full, weigh it at your current base, entry base, or somewhere along the way. Another way is to load up, weigh your car with all your belongings, and then get an empty weight ticket for your destination after unloading everything. Either way, it works. Again, this is based on my experience in the Air Force and other industries may have different regulations.
Weigh stations charge a fee (usually around $10), but you'll get what you pay for. Be sure to get each of the following on all DITY travel weight tickets:
It's a good idea to stand outside the car when it's being weighed to keep the fuel tank full and level. If you follow these tips, you'll be sure to get paid for moving your household items. If you're choosing the Privately Purchased Moving (PPM) option for your military move, there are a few important things you'll need to bring back. The government will provide you with the necessary forms, but you will be responsible for two important things: the receipt and the weight tickets. You may be used to saving your tax receipts, but finding weighted tickets can be unusual. Find out what weight tickets are, when and where to get them, and how a travel company can help you avoid them.
For the past 25 years, U-Pack ® has been helping military personnel and their families move across the country, and our transportation staff works with each branch to ensure that military personnel receive what they need to get them back. To help you get started with ticket weight, our military travel experts have answered common questions about ticket weight.

Note: As requirements may change at any time, we recommend that you contact your local Transport Office (TO) for the latest information on your branch.
A weight ticket is an official document that shows the weight of the vehicle and its contents. During PPM, the government pays you 100% of what you pay military transporters based on the weight of your cargo. Weight tickets are like a receipt showing the size of your luggage, so empty and full tickets must be exchanged for each trip.
Required weighted tickets must contain the following information (all legible when printed):
It depends on your trip. If traveling with a rental truck, you are responsible for collecting all weight tickets. However, many military personnel use a moving company like U-Pack to do their own (DITY) moving. A travel company can book tickets for you if you ask in advance.

Some branches don't matter when you weigh the truck as long as you get full and empty tickets, while others require a certain amount of time. Before moving, contact your local TO to measure the truck at the right time. Another benefit of traveling with U-Pack is that our military travel experts will organize your experience and schedule.
There are more than 600 certified scales in the United States. Use the verified fare locator at move.mil to find the one closest to your location. First, click on "Quick Links" and then on "Find a public scale locator". You can also use the CAT Scale website or the Scale My Truck app if you can't access move.mil.
Weight tickets usually cost $10 each if you get them at a certified weigh station, but the tour company may charge more because it's an added service. Be sure to keep the receipt as you can return it for payment.
Do not weigh the driver, passengers, or dangerous or unauthorized items (this varies by department, but may include items such as building materials, open liquids, cleaners, lighters, and gases). To get the correct weight, make sure the fuel tank is at the same level when empty and full.

If you're moving a car, RV, boat, motorcycle, or trailer, talk to your TO about how to count those items as household goods (HHG). Trailers and vehicles may be allowed, but subject to branch, rank, etc. may require tickets of different weights.
Keep the weighted tickets until the end of the journey and submit them with other PPM documents. Keep a copy for yourself.
Talk to the TO as soon as possible. Check with the moving company to make sure they don't have the weights listed on their records. Otherwise (or if you traveled in a rental truck), you'll need to reload everything to get the weight tickets, since the government won't issue a refund without them.
U-Pack is a popular choice for PPM because we do both driving and billing based on location rather than weight. Although the weight of your HHG does not affect our rates, we can provide tickets confirming their weight if you let us know before moving them. Ask them when booking online or over the phone.
